Tournaments are a lot of fun; however, the day can be long and exhausting for everyone involved, below are some tips to get you through the day. Aspendale Arrows Netball Club have purchased a tent to be used for tournaments – use this as your home base. Important – Check the weather the night before and morning of tournament day – be prepared ! Start the day with a great breakfast ! What to take (suggestions)
Snacks – fresh fruit e.g. bananas, watermelon, oranges, grapes, apples etc. sandwiches, muesli bars, lollies etc.
Plenty of water and / or hydrating sports drinks
Spare socks
Towel
Blanket or rug
Jacket
Plastic bag for rubbish
Tissues and / or wet ones
Band-Aids
Sunscreen
Hat
Hairclips
Deodorant
Book (read in between games)
Esky with ice – keep drinks cool
Umbrella
Spectators – (fold up chair)
Warming Up Before each game get together in a circle and do quick passes with loud encouraging team talk. When playing up to 10 games a day your body doesn't need any extra fatigue, so these warmups should be short and sharp and where you build team connection.
After Each Game Come together as a team. Have a chat about the game just played by discussing positives and negatives. Then, leave that game behind and move on to the next game and the next challenge. An idea for coaches is to have the team playing positions ready for the next game so players are prepared. Enjoy Tournaments are such great fun; they allow you to create lifelong memories that you can talk about for years to come.
